Different Types of Braces

Different Types of Braces

Getting braces is an important decision that you need to make in order to straighten your teeth. The article will discuss the most common treatments that dentists offer to patients who have crooked teeth.

Types of Braces

There are several types of braces that you can choose based on your need and budget. The treatment is less expensive for children since they are still developing and their teeth can be easily realigned. The cost is higher for adults because straightening their teeth takes time and a lot of them go for invisible braces that are costly.

Standard Metal Bracket Braces

Metal braces are what we usually see children wearing. It consists of metal brackets that are joined by a metal wire. These braces don’t cost a lot but they can be a little unsightly. They have been around for several years and a lot of dentists prefer them because they align the teeth perfectly and can be easily adjusted.

Metal braces can be easily customized with ceramic and colored braces. Ceramic braces cost more because they match the color of the patient’s teeth and are generally less noticeable. A lot of children opt for colored braces since they look aesthetically pleasing and have several different colors that they can choose from. With the standard metal bracket braces, the teeth can get straightened in about two years on average. However, in case of underbite or overbite, the treatment can last longer.

Clear Aligner Trays

A better alternative is to get plastic aligner trays such as Invisalign. They are made from clear plastic which makes them less noticeable. The trays are removable and can be taken off for eating, drinking, and cleaning purposes. However, the treatment may not be suitable for all patients because it only deals with mild orthodontic problems.

Lingual or Invisible Braces

One way to hide braces is to get them placed at the back of the teeth. These types of braces are called lingual braces and are places at the lingual side of the teeth. Initially it is uncomfortable but it is a good option for people who can’t get the Invisalign treatment. Keep in mind that lingual braces are more expensive than traditional braces because it requires special training and they are not easy to deal with. It is highly suitable for people who do not want to be seen wearing braces because of their jobs or are conscious about their overall image.

If you want to get braces then look at the available options and see which one is the most suitable and cost effective. You can talk to your dentist, read reviews online and ask family and friends for recommendations. If they suggest a good dentist then get a quote for them and ask them for the payment plan for the entire treatment. Make sure that you ask them about the retainer since it is usually not a part of the braces treatment.
